Eli Roth is to return to directing after a five year absence. He will helm The Green Inferno, a horror project he’s been developing during his time off.

Not much is known about The Green Inferno’s plot, but Roth has promised it will be "Daring and terrifying," and "The scariest and most intense film I have made to date."

Roth said: “I’ve had an amazing few years producing, writing and acting, and am very excited to get back in the director’s chair. I’ve been working on this idea for several years, and was inspired by filming in Chile and cannot wait to get back.”

“Worldview backs my vision and believes in me, and is giving me the support I need and the freedom to take risks. I want to audiences worldwide to feel my return to directing was worth the wait.”

Eli last picked up a camera to help his old mate Quentin Tarantino, by shooting the Nation’s Pride bits of Inglourious Basterds. But his last full feature was Hostel 2, way back in 2007.

Since then Roth has proven himself to be an impressive producer, helping found footage possession flick The Last Exorcism to the big screen, and on its way to becoming a fully fledged franchise.

Production on The Green Inferno will begin at the end of the year, in Peru and Chile.

Wes Anderson and cast attend Moonrise Kingdom press conference

by News Feed on May.17, 2012, under Entertainment

Moonrise Kingdom opened the Cannes film festival in fine style last night, with the opening night gala preceded by a star-studded press-conference attended by Wes Anderson and his entire cast.

A key theme of the high-spirited conference was just how much fun it is to work on a Wes Anderson production. "It’s clearly a family that has been created over the years," said Tilda Swinton. "I felt like I had been invited to a wedding and one that I was really happy to be invited to."

There was plenty of praise for Anderson’s directing style, with newcomer Bruce Willis particularly effusive about the filmmaker. "I found it really refreshing to be directed and to be asked to perform the part in a really specific way," he said. "In a world where on a lot of films you don’t rehearse and nobody really talks to you about it, it was so nice to be asked to work in a certain way."

Fellow A-lister Ed Norton also enjoyed the community feel of the shoot. "All of us started by reading about Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre players… there’s a romance to that," he said. "As an actor I used to dream about how fun it would be to be a part of a troupe like that. Wes has put one together."

Unsurprisingly however, it was Bill Murray who stole the show, musing about how they could have hired Van Damme if Willis wasn’t available, before going on to describe the general feeling of working on an Anderson project.

"These are what you call ‘art films’,” began Murray. “I don’t know if you know what those are, but they’re films where you work very, very long hours for no money. All we get is this trip to Cannes. That’s it. But fortunately we’ve saved from other jobs we’ve worked on, so we can [afford to] work with Wes over and over again."

Moonrise Kingdom opens in the UK on 25 May 2012.

First poster lands for Skyfall

by News Feed on May.17, 2012, under Entertainment

Skyfall has released a first official poster, and a beautifully minimalist one it is too, featuring an unsmiling Daniel Craig in the classic gun-barrel framing.

The new poster is very much in keeping with the gritty, back to basics Bond portrayed by Craig since Casino Royale, dispensing with the frills to ensure that 007 remains the star of the show.

No cackling villains on hand here then, nor Javier Bardem’s shocking blonde mop. Just a Double-O agent packing a pistol and preparing for business.

That said, Bond’s lighter side will come to the surface in the film itself, with Craig promising that the script will be peppered with a few of 007’s trademark one-liners. “You have to have a script that has the bones of comedy,” said Craig. “Comedy in Bond films, for me, comes out of the situations people get into."

"They’re exciting, and hopefully heart-stopping," he continues, "and the comedy comes out of one-liners and things. There’s a lightness of touch in the writing that’s not been as evident in the past two."

Skyfall
will open in the UK on 26 October 2012. You can check out the poster in full, below…

New Prometheus poster explodes online

by News Feed on May.17, 2012, under Entertainment

[brightcove]1518899591001[/brightcove]

We were only saying yesterday that we’re getting a bit fed up of seeing too much from Prometheus, but today we eat our words.

Because, as far as we’re concerned, the Fox marketing team can release as many beautiful posters as they want.

The new one-sheet below manages the trick of taking a moment we’ve already seen in a trailer, and freezing it time to make it look instantly iconic.

It also follows the 2012 trend of showing a star with his back to the audience (we assume that’s Michael Fassbender engaging his curiosity circuits to gaze in awe at the massive explosion his colleagues are fleeing from) whilst still giving us forward-facing gawps at Noomi Rapace and Chalize Theron scrambling to safety.

Prometheus opens on 1 June. We absolutely cannot wait.

Terminator: Rise Of The Machines actor Nick Stahl is missing, according to LA police sources.

The actor was first reported missing by his wife Rose Murphy on Monday 14 May. The actor was last seen on Wednesday 9 May.

Stahl appears in several of Total Film’s favorite films, including Bully, The Thin Red Line and Sin City, but is perhaps best known for playing John Connor in the third installment of the Terminator franchise.

He’s next set to take the lead in The Unknown Son, playing Noah Prentice, a man who uses a mysterious tattoo on his wrist to uncover the secrets of his past.

We hope Nick is returned to his family soon. We’ll follow the story as it develops.

James Badge Dale joins Iron Man 3

by News Feed on May.17, 2012, under Entertainment

Iron Man 3 has added another new addition to its growing ensemble, with James Badge Dale the latest star to join the superhero sequel’s increasingly starry cast.

The star of TV’s The Pacific will play Eric Savin, a character Iron Man fans will remember well from the comics. A Lieutenant Colonel who takes charge of Project: Ultra in the original stories, Savin is perhaps best known for the landmine blast that took off one of his legs.

Resurrected as a cyborg via cybernetic surgery, Savin becomes the cyborg Coldblood, a skilled mercenary for hire. Whether or not that transformation will take place in Iron Man 3 remains to be seen. Perhaps Marvel are simply setting up the character for films further down the track…

What we do know is that the film’s storyline will draw heavily upon Warren Ellis’ Extremis series, in which Tony Stark finds his latest suit targeted by a virus designed to sabotage its new nanotechnology upgrades.

Directed by Shane Black and featuring a whole host of new cast members including Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce and Rebecca Hall, Iron Man 3 will open in the UK on 3 May 2013. We can hardly wait…
